Week 99

cant believe we are down to 8 days until i am home! the time has just flown and its crazy! the mission has been a great experience, and i am so happy to be finishing strong and very alive ;) hahaha

next weekend Justino and Altagracia will be baptized, and i am so happy for the both of them. we had a great lesson with justino and his wife natali, and we went up to the roof and looked out over the city and just reflected a little bit about the miracle it was that we found them! they honestly have been the miracle of this area, and maybe one of the biggest of my mission. i love this work, and love the difference that we can make in the lives of others.

i can honestly say that the song how great shall be your joy is completely true.

this week was a good one, we did a lot of service, met with the members and made plans to help the ward have more success, and we have planned some great activities. hopefully it motivates the members to invite their friends to come and see a little more of the LDS church!

its been so hot lately, honestly not gonna miss that, im looking forward to a/c and ice water whenever i want it! hahaha

this week is full of goodbyes, we have our last leadership counsel, where we are going to sing the song i wrote "onto the next" or "continuaremos" it will be sung by the 25 who are going home in our group! super excited for that! then last district meeting thursday, im saying bye to paraiso oriental tomorrow, and saturday is the temple trip for those going home! trunkiness!!!

feeling great. love this work. miss my family and happy to see them. it really does feel like a dream that i am about to wake up from. i hope to continue doing the things that i learned here. i know it wont be easy, but its a necessary step, and just like my song says...

"we´ve gone as far as we could go,

we´ve learned by experience, but there´s more that we need to know,

with the help of our savior, its been a success,

but this part of the plan is complete, so onto the next"

:)

love you all, hope you have a great week!

Week 98

well, down to 2 weeks left, cant believe that all this stuff is happening, almost heading home and what not, but i am staying focused, working hard and enjoying the mission!

Highlight of the week was the marriage of Justino and Natali, which was a great time, we prepared everything during the week, which took a lot of work and overcoming opposition.
because there baby had gotten sick, they had some worries about costs, because of all the expenses for the hospital stay for their son. so we called the bishop and the ward helped a lot! we set up everything for the marriage in the town hall, and they got married friday morning, then we celebrated the wedding on saturday! we went to the temple with them before and took pics, that was Natali´s Dream, it was sweet! lots of emotion and pure Joy! then we went to the chapel for the celebration and a bunch of members and there family was there, Janfreisi had a blast organizing everything for her parents wedding, its was fun to watch! she is paityns age, so i feel like its my little sister here from the DR! small cooincidence, i saw one of my converts from san vicente there, grisliedy, who is the niece of Natali! crazy! small world!

we are working for Justino to be baptized soon! hopefully this coming weekend! Natali is excited to be able to enter the temple now, she has worked so hard to be worthy!

then today for p day we went to chilis with elder Beecher and Elder Anderson, i will send pics of that asap!

all good in the hood, we are hanging on til the end!

Love you all!

Week 97

the highlight of this week was ward conference when they finally called a bishop! we had gone about 3 months without one and so it was a long wait, but the bishop is a stud, his name is wascar, a young 27 year old husband, no kids, but super qualified by the Lord, the ward is going to see miracles!

for the conference i played the piano, and we had 2 special musical numbers, one by the primary which brought a lot of tears to the congregation, and then a closing hymn by the choir, nearer my God to thee, when theres love at home, Elder Auger original, super good time playing that!  because of the long awaited conferece, lots of people invited friends, we had 17 investigators in church, and 215 attendance, compared to the usual 6 investigators and 80-90 attendance, super cool day!

then that same night, president Corbitt and his wife came to give a devotional to the YSA of various stakes, there were about 250 young single adults, and then Elder Ferrufino and I, we went originally because i need to download the video project ive been working on to presidents laptop, but when i got there, they asked if i could play the piano and then sister Corbitt needed someone to translate, so we stayed for the whole thing and took part. it was a little wierd, being a young single adult in that meeting, all that talk about marriage and stuff, i was trying hard to stay focused ;) hahaha Just kidding, im always focused!

then we visited Natali and Justino who have been in the hospital with their son, Nataniel, who has been sick, but is doing better, we gave him a blessing and then the new bishop also went to visit them, super stud! they are getting married this weekend!

then today we played some basketball with hermano curry, who has got to be my all time best friend here in maquiteria, he reminds me of Trevor Schenck, that same kind of loving spirit who likes to party, serve others, and is a spiritual giant! also took some pics in the faro a colon, pretty good time!

3 more weeks, i cant believe it! time to F2TF and ETTE!

Love you all, hope it was a good week, CTR always!

Week 96

It was a great week man! feel spoiled rotten for being able to visit La Llave with Elder Beard and Elder Ramos, for having Janfreisy get Baptized, and for being able to talk with the fam!

first, friday we got permission to do an intercambio, but first we had a meeting with all the guys from my group talking with president about finishing the mish! then we practiced the song that i wrote for the end of the mission, you know there will be some tears when we sing that! Then I went with E. Beecher, and it was his birthday, we celebrated at night! but before that we went to La Llave and said good bye to members and old friends there! they had a sweet activity set up for us, where we answered questions that they had for us about finishing the mission, then questions to see how dominicanized we were, about the culture and language, super fun and funny!

then we took pics, and they gave us a certificate of appreciation for having served in there ward! super cool, then i played the piano and the youth sang a song! we ate empanadas at the end. super good to see Librada and Chandel, Melibeth, Oriana, David and Christopher and others!

Janfreisy got baptized as well. her family is progressing so nicely, we are working on helping Natali and Justino get married at the end of this month! we had Luckson baptize her, he had to do it like 5 times though! hahaha he is a recent convert and that was the first time for him to be able to excercise the aaronic Priesthood! awesome!

then we got to talk with the fam, best time ever, cant wait to see you all in 29 days, i did some souvenir shopping in the conde today, getting trunky now! hahaha working hard though!

anyways, all is well here in Maquiteria, i hope you all had a great mothers day!

I know this Church is True, Thought of the Week is to not forget the Army of Heleman, and how they followed the great example of their mothers in faith and obedience, I love you mom, thanks for your strong testimony!

have a great week!

Week 95

well, Brayan was baptized and confirmed this week! so awesome, he has made such a turn around in his life! he took out all his piercings, cut his hair down, and is progressing nicely, we are preparing him to recieve the priesthood now!

Janfreisy and her family are awesome, she will be baptized this friday!

we invited her parents to get married, Natali, the mom shared us her personal testimony after we invited them to be married the 27th... "i have been praying that the Lord will help me and my husband get married as soon as possible, because i want to be worthy to take the sacrament again, and enter the temple. I cant believe the same day, you guys come over and invite us to be married this month!" she is now waiting the go ahead from Justino, they just need to make plans and notify their family, but they are progressing amazingly as a familiy! I love it!

today for p day we played football, and president played all time QB so awesome! i got pretty sun burnt, but it was worth it!

i realized that i will never have a week 4 in a transfer in the mission again! only 5 weeks til i get home and get to be with all the fam again! cant wait!

So sorry for the Loss of the loved ones in the Ward. the families of Jenelle Adams and Andrea Gardner will be in my prayers! know that I know that the Plan of Salvation is real, its real because the Book of Mormon is the biggest modern day proof that God lives. He spoke with Joseph Smith and gave him the power to translate it. when pain and fear come, I remember the Book of Mormon. I testify that it is true. the Gospel is true, God lives, He loves us, and his plan for us is perfect. I know that These beloved sisters of the Pioneer Ward are only waiting a few years so that they can be with their families for ALL of eternity. The temple and its powers are True. I know it. I love you all and Hope that the Atonement can comfort you in these moments of trial and sadness. God hears your prayers and knows your sorrows.

I love this Gospel. I love my family. I thank God everyday for these two things. They bring Eternal Happiness.

I send my love and concern, I hope to meet with both these amazing families soon, thanks for your great faith and testimony!

Week 94

these past two weeks have been great in the work here in maquiteria. angelo was baptized and confirmed this week. he was super excited and has been prepared to take this step for a while, he just needed to make the decision!

also, brayan accepted the date for this coming weekend, he is preparing himself nicely, as well as janfreisi, she accepted the date for the 13th, her parents and little siblings all went to church this week, super awesome!

we had zone conference this week and we talked about an interesting topic, which i think has to do a lot with what is going on back home...

we talked about the pre earth life. the opposition that there was there, so much that 1/3 of our spiritual brothers and sisters decided to reject our heavenly fathers plan, even being in his presence! but the amazing part is how all of us that have, and will recieve a body here on earth will recieve the oportunity to progress. then there is the question, and what about those who came to the earth with different circumstances? president Corbitt talked about his personal experience, how he was born in a part of the world to a family that didnt have the gospel. but now he is a mission president! its interesting how we as members take part in the salvation of our brothers and sisters, i think thats why the prophet Joseph Smith said that preaching the gospel is the most important thing we can do!

Gods plan is perfect. He does love us. i quoted the words of my dads song "welcome home"

"we are brothers and sisters far away from home,

father sent us down here and now we are on our own,

He sent us down to see, just how good we could be,

though we struggle and we fall, we will make it home after all."

the spirit was there.

i love you all, know that the book of mormon is the rock of my testimony, when doubt and fear arise, i turn to the book of mormon, and it fortifies all the knowledge of the gospel and plan of salvation. God Lives, Jesus is the Christ, Families can be together forever!

Week 93

this week was awesome, but got to be brief, the internet turned on late...

wilfer got baptized, he is the oldest of 5 and is 11 years old! his mom is a single mother and right now isnt super interested in the church, but he loves going and finally was able to be baptized!

Angelo is going to be baptized this coming saturday, he went to the baptism and got to see what its like, he is excited! we have a FHE with him tonight!

brayan is awesome, he is probably one of the toughest looking guys i have ever taught, he had earings and a lip ring, but this week we taught him the law of chastidy and about how our bodies are temples, and invited him to not use those piercings anymore. the day we heard from his neighbor, that he had taken them out! he went to church without them in! he really is trying to follow Jesus Christ!

then lastly the family mendez is awesome, natali is the less active that we contacted, her husband and kids went this week. in a lesson we had with them, some of their friends were there and we were teaching the restoration, and her friend liset asked how she could know which of all the churches is true? and before we could respond, natali stood up and bore her testimony, she said she had the same question and so she prayed. shortly after, elder diego and I knocked on her door! she said that she knew that God hears us and she invited liset to pray! it was awesome! her family should be baptized next month, she will have to get married, but they are progressing super nicely!

then today was a good p day, we played soccer in the rain, and then wrestled a little in the mud puddles! super great time!

thats all for now, im loving the work, but lovin how close i am to seeing you all soon!

CTR and dont be afraid to open your mouth and share the gospel!

Week 92

well, the highlight of the week was the ward party for the semana santa (what they celebrate instead of easter) its fun to participate in some of the traditions, like sweet beans, the suspition that you cant eat meat on friday, and other traditions, more catholic based.

friday we had the ward party and had 6 investigators come, including david, and angelo, angelo has a baptismal date for the end of the month! for the party we played some sports, had church videos and movies in the chapel, and tons of great food! the highlight had to be the gringo missionary activity, an easter egg hunt! hahaha thanks mom for all the sweets, i had to share them with all the little kids in the two wards that go to our building. they had a pool as well, but they loved the easter egg hunt! so thanks for that!

transfers have been good, Elder ferrufino is awesome, loves to work, cook, and go by the book! a class missionary! we made valiadas, the same thing we made for christmas when we lived together a few months ago! the work is going well!

we talked in church yesterday, elder ferrufino talked about the ressurection of Jesus Christ, and i talked about the missionary work. all the members said we gave some stellar talks, so thats always good to hear! we also did a special musical number! i know that my reedemer lives! a quartet composed of me and 3 other members, the keyboard in the chapel can record so i recorded the song and then was able to sing! fun stuff!

today we `played soccer in the parque del este, it was a blast, but now i am super burnt! hahaha worth it though!

all is going well, staying focused, and working hard for these last 8 weeks! crazy! hahaha

love you all, and i hope you have a great week! happy late easter! :)

Week 91

cant believe i am coming down to 9 weeks left, really crazy to think! i am trying my best to stay focused and work as hard as possible, and we have been doing a good job at that.

Elder Diego left, and now my new comp will be elder ferrufino, whom i lived with for 2 transfers! he is was cool, from honduras, i think he is going to be my last companion!

this week was just another hard working week, we had the leadership conference though, elder diego gave his last testimony, and we talked about some interesting subjects, such as "how to stay active after finishing the mission" we made some personal goals and i am excited, one of mine was get married fast ;) kinda joking..... but kinda not...... we will see what the Lord has in mind ;)

we contacted a family that is really awesome, the mom`s name is natali, and she has been less active for the past 15 years, she has her husband, justino, and 3 kids, the oldest is 14 her name is janfreisi, and we shared a little with them, and we couldn´t tell if they were super interested, but we invited them to church and kinda left it at that, well saturday night, we happened to see them, and she said she was going to try to go, so we were excited and waiting for her sunday morning, but she didn´t show. kinda bummed... then in sunday school, a lady from the other ward in our building pulled us out of the class and said there was a family looking for us, turns out it was natali and her entire family! they had gone to the wrong ward sacrament meeting! but they came! a tender mercy from the Lord!

Angel and Daniel are progressing nicely, marlennys and luckson are awesome, they are inviting friends to church. Luckson recieved the arronic priesthood and is now a preist! i love seeing the work advance, especially after someone gets baptized!

all is well, super hot over here though... it should be a good week, maybe even a baptism this coming weekend!

love you all, thanks for the prayers and support! have a great week! CTR

Week 90

well, conference was awesome, had a few investigators go, and marlennys and luckson both went, they are awesome, really learning and loving the gospel, their conversion is continuing nicely!

i loved the talk from Joaquin acosta? the guy from from argentina that was baptized and married his wife, and how he invited others to come unto Christ! that would be a great talk to share with someone who you wish to have the gospel!

the work is still going nicely, preparing more people for this and the next coming month, this month our mission has a goal that every companionship baptizes! we are about 90 companionships, so it should be a challenge, but i think we can do it!

not a whole lot more to say about this week sadly, just lots of contacting, teaching and inviting others to come unto Christ! Which is one of my favorite things to do! we have 9 investigators that have baptismal dates, the hernandez family, which is 5, jose miguel, a teenage boy, altagracia, a senior lady that has always had interest in the church, daniel, a single man who works in the faro a colon, and geral, a friend of lucksons who is from haiti also, they are all super great, we are helping them develop desires to read the book of mormon, and go to church. they are all great people, and the gospel is going to bless their lives! it makes me happen to see them progress!

today we played tennis again, super fun, then went to taco bell in the nearby mall! great times!

thats it for this week, love you all tons!

ELDER AUGER

this week we also had a little activity in the zone meeting, an ugly tie and skirt contest for the missionaries, i ended up winning 2nd place, using an ugly tie AND skirt ;) hahaha i won an ugly hat, bug spray, a pencil and tooth paste, funny activity! ;)

this is luckson, our ward mission leader, and his wife, all from haiti and all super awesome members! they enjoyed listening to conference, we relate a little because it is not our native language, but we were blessed with the gift of interpretation of toungues as we listened to it. this may be the last conference i ever listen to in spanish!!!

Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Week 89

So this week has been one of the most amazing of my entire mission! i got a new comp tuesday night, his name is Elder Diego from Peru, he only has 2 weeks left before he goes home! two oldies working it out on the final stretch and let me just say it has been amazing, we are working harder than ever, and more efficiently than ever!

this week the Lord blessed us to find about 5 new families, that are super prepared to recieve the gospel, some of which are already married, which is very uncommon here in the DR! The Hernandez family is one of them, they have 5 kids, from 4 to 14 and are super awesome, we contacted the dad, jose thomas, in the park one afternoon and he said we could pass by and teach his family, they are already married and he said he is interested in our message! him and his son went to church this week, his wife, maria had to stay home with the kids that were sick. in our first lesson we talked about baptism and invited them as a family to work toward a goal of the 29 of April, which may seem a little fast, but Elder Diego and i feel that they are super prepared, they said they would strive to recieve an answer and act on it!

i think i have finally found the key to missionary work, and its to find, teach and baptize continually. if someone is not progressing, and its not their time, we must strive to find those that are prepared by the Lord. we have found so many prepared people this week, 23 new investigators to be exact, that means that we taught 23 new people and have a time to go back and teach, i am seriously just astonished!

i was worried that my mind would kinda just kinda burn out these last 2 months, but just like a christian rock and roll song that my dad and i sang all the time says, IM ALIVE; IM ALIVE; AND MY SPIRIT BURNS WITH DESIRE! hahaha i feel like the Lord can finally use me as the instrument that he needs in the mission field, and let me just say, I am sooooooooo happy :) i am looking forward to coming home, but i have really enjoyed this week, probably becuase of how focused we are right now, and i  praise my comp E Diego, he endures til the end!

anyways, pray for those that we are teaching, families Hernandez, Ramirez, mendez, valenzuela, and Flores!

thanks for the Love and support! the church is true and the book is blue!

ELDER AUGER

This is one of our new investigators, his name is Ever, and he is a local chef, we were contacting someone outside his business and as soon as we finished talking he asked us to look up his name in our cell phone, we found it saved there, he told us that elders in the past had talked to him, so i was wondering what is challenge was, so we put another day to come back, and he told us to bring an empty stomach and hunger! so we pass by thursday night and he prepares us this big plate of BBQ ribs (which is the first time i have eaten ribs here) and we talked a little about our message. my comp and him talked about the bible and at the end of the lesson, we basically find out that he is athiest. he says that christianism is great because it makes the world a better place, and he is a very christlike person, but he needs to know that there is a God and a Savior, so instead of talking about the errrors in the bible, i said we were going to discuss the Book of Mormon, we have a lesson this wednesday, im excited to share some new things with him! :) ps. when we come back to visit, we have to eat at his business! ;)

so, our iron broke, so we use the toaster to heat it up and then iron our shirts, pretty funny...

then my comp elder diego is collecting the dragon ball z discs that come in the chip bags, its big here, there are 100 and he has about 80 of them, so he is constantly trading the ones he gets twice for those he is missing! hahaha

Monday, March 20, 2017

Week 88

This was a great week, first off on tuesday we got to hear from an Apostle of the Lord, Elder Anderson!!! he came and we got to hear from him live! i got lucky enough to sit in the 3rd row from the front, so i was super close up to him! The coolest thing i think i heard while he spoke was that he has a perfect knowledge that the savior lives!!! the spirit was sooooo strong as he spoke! super amazing!

then we had our own zone conference, i gave a topic about the love of and for the Savior, did the demonstration where everyone eats some cookies and treats, and then i picked one missionary to do pushups for all those that ate, Elder Syrie (whom i live with) did 70 pushups straight, and it was powerful to see the response of the missionaries as we watched him shake and struggle, he is a stud and busted them out, but it was a battle, we then discussed the similarities to the atonement, and i expressed the love i felt for Elder Syrie as he paid for our actions, and how the savior has paid for ALL our actions and pains, and sorrows, and sicknesses. it was a good conference.

also, we had our first Maquiteria ward choir performance, we sang "cuan grande tu gozo serĂ " or how great shall be your joy, i played the piano, and my comp and 6 other members sang, but now i imagine we will be having more wanting to join the choir, it turned out really well! made me trunky! hahaha

then we had our baptismal service for marlenny and luckson, and let me tell you, they are amazing! they both are reading tons in the Book of Mormon, they are in mosiah right now, and have about 2 weeks with the book! incredible! the service went well, i sang "I know when i am baptized" in spanish and english and played the guitar at the same time, good stuff, its always a great experience when someone decides to get baptized!

today we did something i have been itching to do my whole mission! we played tennis!!! the four of us in our house played, doubles, the others learned pretty well, and although my serve was a little rusty, i was able to bust out a couple aces ;) hahaha

tomorrow Elder Marte is going to the MTC in Provo, he has been waiting for his visa to go to Italy and he finally got it, so i will be working in a trio with Elder Syrie and Garcia, whom we live with, we will cover maquiteria, and Villa Duarte, same building, areas next to eachother, should work out until transfers, or when they can get me a new companion.

the mission is great, i realize now how fast it has gone by, i hope i can take advantage of these last 12 weeks, im hoping to help more come unto Christ, and prepare more people for the future! i love this work :)

quick shout out to my cousin Conner Sabin, called to serve in the jamaica Mission!!! funny story, i dont know if you know Gavin Slack, he was the kicker at riverton, i went on an exchange and he said he knew you! i will send a pic of us ;)

LOVE YOU ALL!

ELDER AUGER

To the Pioneer Ward Young Men:

thanks for the email Chris! if you could read this to the boys, i would appreciate it!

If you have any question about serving a mission, whether you are qualified, or whether its worth your time,i give you my promise that YES YOU ARE and YES IT IS!

a mission is one of the hardest things i have ever done.

however, it is the thing i am most grateful to have done.

Some words from the apostle Elder Anderson... "a mission is such a unique experience, and an easy one in some sense. you dont have to work, you dont have to go to school, you dont have to worry about girls or dating, you just get to feel the spirit 24/7 and share the gospel with everyone!"

i have loved not having to worry about anything but preaching the gospel, in fact i am more nervous for coming home and having to live in the real world!

i have learned so much more about the Savior and his love for us, the Eternal plan of hapiness, the whys of life, the way to recieve blessings straight the heaven, and how importance it is to have faith and repent.

if you do decide to go, make sure you are as worthy as possible, if you have even a slight feeling of doubt, whether or not you should talk with the bishop about something from the past, do it. he will listen to you and respond with love! Bishop Cook is one of the most loving and kind people I know! be honest and open with him about anything you feel might keep you from being completely clean. if it takes a little more time, don´t worry, you will be filled with happiness as you feel the Savior`s atonement work within you, and as you feel forgiveness becoming a part of your life.

high school is fun,

a mission is Funner (i know funner is not a real word, i just want to prove a point)

its a brother hood. being a missionary makes you part of a new family, you meet people that will be your friends forever! you have experiences that you will be able to tell your wife and kids down the road. and when you have a son or daughter that is wondering whether or not to serve a mission, you can give them your own personal testimony that they should and that they can!

i hope you all know how much I love you, i feel like you are all little brothers of mine, and as a big brother of yours, i invite you to pray to Heavenly Father and ask him for help as you prepare to serve a mission. read the Book of Mormon. leave with the missionaries. you will feel the Spirit of the missionary work and will know that it is the right thing to do!

I love you all!
con mucho amor desde la Republica Dominicana,

ELDER AUGER!

Week 87

here was my letter to president this week, has some funny things in it...

Great week President,

the project is going well, filmed 3 families, and the edition is going well,(we are filming a video of testimonies of families that have been married and baptized, and it has been a blast!)

also have some baptisms planned for this coming week, and we are searching for new investigators as we go.

i feel like the key to finding is on the way to lessons, sometimes we get there a little late, but its worth it, we have found some of the most prepared people while in the street walking along side them.

to break the paradigm, i think that we should talk with someone new between every lesson, even if it is just handing out a pass along card.

my metafore is leftovers. when we eat lunch, sometimes we have leftovers, those are like the people getting prepared for baptism. we aren´t going to let them go to waste, but we are also not going to eat rice beans and meat for breakfast, we are always cooking new food and finishing off what we have started ;) kinda funny, but more than true!

Week 86

Well, its been a big week as the first that I have been out in my new area, Maquiteria, with my new comp Elder Marte!

so tuesday was my first day in the area, and the doctor and his wife in the mission came to teach a family they had contacted with us, and let me say, I dont know why, but it was such a powerful lesson, maybe that sister olsen doesnt speak a lot of spanish, but her spirit was so powerful, lets just say it had been a while since i had cried...

we also are teaching some haitian families, because my comp speaks english, spanish, and french!!! so its been kinda funny, in the lessons with them, i feel just like i did when i got here to the country, i just listen and try to bear my testimony at the end, elder marte is teaching me how to speak french!

Luckson is one of the people from Haiti that we are teaching, he is AWESOME! the first time we visit, we leave him the book of mormon, and we come back and he has read the first pamphlet and first 5 chapters! then came to church with us this sunday, elder marte translated the whole time, and i played the piano, super fun!

we also have a bunch of return missionaries in a program called Funval, which helps them get jobs after they get home from the mission, so they have left with us on divisions multiple times, super awesome! i left with one who is name Manuel Casado, that served with elder Taylor, so you will have to make sure he sees this post!

cool to be in Ozama zone again, especially because Elder Palma is my zone leader! so proud of that guy! ;)

im super glad to be working 24-7 in my area, now i can really focus on the ward and teach more people! the only bad part is that because i am walking tons again, i sweat more, and this week i really broke out... but i will adjust again ;)

love you all tons, hope you have a great week, i will send a couple pictures of my house and area, we have the parque del este and faro colon in our area, so its pretty cool!

Be safe and CTR!
